Jonathan Carpenter

UX & Digital Strategy Director

A Proud Jack of All Trades

and UX Expert

Having worked across a variety of emerging and go-to-market services and products companies for almost 20 years, I’ve grown a passion for highly usable interfaces and devices that improve our daily lives.

I strive to motivate others around me through a strategic lens, ensuring all are motivated by the long term impact of their work.

My background

Current Google, former Harman, Samsung, FutureBrand

I’ve been a Web Designer, Front-End Programmer, Usability Specialist, Creative Team Lead, UI Designer, UX Director, Project Manager, Program Director and Digital Strategist. All these roles are centered around my focus on the end user. Delivering quality experiences and vision to support the goals and needs of all users of digital devices and platforms.

I started my own digital agency while still in university, then moved on to working on the earliest mobile interfaces and usability standards. I took over a small design team at Harman and grew it to over 60 designers across 4 continents.

My favorite project was the Harman/Rinspeed Snap Concept vehicle. My design team focused on the ideal user experience for a fully autonomous vehicle from the ground up, envisioning a perfect balance of mechanical and digital interfaces.

At Google, I strategize 5 years in the future, as well as deliver tactical implementations based on those strategies. Working among a complex, multi-faceted major organization has strengthened my presentation and storytelling skills to ensure all stakeholders buy into the vision.

I connect my past to my present to create the best possible user experiences I can to create things others might have missed.

I would love to continue my strategic journey. I’d like to find further growth in my career, driving the future of user experiences through managing and strategizing digital products.

User Focused

My #1 Priority – to bring business and product considerations into account with respect to the user’s wants and needs, to develop an experience that meets all stakeholders expectations, but delights the user.

Reality Driven

My goal is to always work in close collaboration with engineering groups to ensure that every item I design can be delivered in a timely and successful manner.

Finitely Iterative

I always look to validate the success of the experience through user testing and performance evaluation, letting me go back to tweak and refine the design to get to the best result I can in as little time needed.
